One pice horse coins were minted by the Indian government during the year 1950 to 1955. These coins were minted in the alloy of Bronze. It is circular in shape. This coin replaced the “Hole coin” that had been in circulation since 1943. The hole in the center of the "washer type" somewhat increased its production cost. Note that the official weight of this coin is 3.88 grams for 1950 coins and the thickness is 1.6 mm. From February 1951 the weight was reduced to 2.92 grams and the thickness to 1.2 mm for the 1951 to 1955. The diameter is the same at 21.33 mm.
